Public Comments Requested for Hoover
Trail Rehabilitation/Resurfacing

STA-Hoover Trail; PID: 118716

Stark Parks, in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), invites the public to provide comments regarding the proposed rehabilitation/resurfacing of the Hoover Trail between Marquardt Avenue and Market Avenue in the City of North Canton. Existing limestone trail sections will be regraded and widened to 10-feet where practicable and surfaced with approximately 3-inches of new asphalt.

Within the project construction limits, the trail is located on the City of North Canton Hoover Preserve and Walsh University properties and connects to the Hoover Community Recreation Complex at East Maple Street.  While access will be maintained to the Hoover Preserve, Hoover Community Recreation Complex, Walsh University and other adjacent properties throughout project construction, closure of the trail network is required to ensure public safety.  The trail network will be closed between Marquardt Avenue and Market Avenue for approximately 60 days. Construction is currently scheduled to begin Fall of 2027 and will last approximately 2 months.

Trail rehabilitation/resurfacing operations will be performed within the existing public trail rights-of-way. To facilitate construction activities, Stark Parks entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City of North Canton for construction access across a portions of the Hoover Preserve at Marquardt Avenue and through the Hoover Community Recreation Complex drive and parking lot areas. The project will maintain access to the Hoover Preserve and Hoover Community Recreation Complex public recreational facilities during project construction. No stream or wetland impacts are anticipated for the project and any tree trimming needed to access the trail alignment will be minimized to maximum extent practicable. All access areas disturbed by the project will be fully restored and returned to a condition which is at least as good as that which existed prior to the project.
