The Iron Horse Trail in Paris and Washington Township will connect Alliance to Minerva.
An abandoned rail right-of-way that connects Alliance to Minerva has potential to provide an off-road north-south trail along the eastern edge of the county. The proposed route would lead north from Minerva past Tunnel Hill and Edgewater Golf Course. This trail would form a loop with the Nickel Plate Trail and the Stark Farmland Trail.
The old right-of-way is still visible, but the ability to reclaim this corridor for public use will continue to diminish as new development encroaches in the surrounding countryside. Development of the trail will require considerable negotiation and agreements with private property owners. The corridor would extend from the surrounding countryside into downtown Alliance, surrounding residential neighborhoods, and Mount Union College. Reclaiming this corridor as a park-like ribbon will significantly enhance the quality of nearby neighborhoods and contribute to their revitalization.
