 East Canton Connector
back next

The East Canton Connector in Nimisillen and Osnaburg Townships would connect East Canton to Louisville and the Nickel Plate Trail.

Just south of Louisville's Metzger Park, a connector trail is proposed to link the Nickel Plate Trail to the historic town center of East Canton. This connector will provide residents of East Canton with easy access to the regional trail system.

Two alternatives exist for the connection. One is an on-road connection; the other would take advantage of a utility easement for an off-road connection. From East Canton, the route is proposed to go cross-country east from the high school bus maintenance garage drive through an abandoned strip mine is in various stages of reclamation and has the potential to be redeveloped wpe1E.jpg (29778 bytes) as a multi-use community park. An on-road bicycle lane would link Miday to Georgetown and the Nickel Plate Trail a mile to the east.

Noble Avenue would serve as the north side of a proposed loop trail around the city's historic core. The proposed loop would go south on S. Plum, east on Church Avenue, north on Market, east on Liberty, and north on Louisville to Noble, connecting the school and library property with several historic features, including a cemetery and train station. A walking tour of the downtown business core would complement the hike/bike trail and encourage tourism.
