LOWER MIDDLEBRANCH TRAIL
The Lower Middle Branch within Canton and Pike Townships would include Howenstine and East Sparta.
The Lower Middle Branch Trail would be an extension of the West Branch Trail from Canton to the southern edge of the county. It basically would parallel the West Branch of the Nimishillen Creek and go through North Industry, Howenstine, and East Sparta. The proposed route is a combination of on-road and greenway trails along the stream corridor. The landscape is a mix of light industry, residential, and small towns. The greenway includes the community ballpark at Howenstine. It enters East Sparta at the north end of the community and uses the stream corridor along the eastern edge of town. An historic mill is located within the greenway and highlights the community's history. The route extends to the Sandy Valley Community Park. Future extensions are possible beyond the county to Sandyville and Tuscarawas County. The proposed trail will be for pedestrians, cyclists, and equestrians.
