Sippo Lake Park
(Perry Township)

Sippo Lake is a 321-acre park with 107 acres of water. The majority of Sippo's natural areas are purposely preserved with limited public access and facilities. Each area of the park offers a unique recreational opportunity as well as an outdoor educational experience.

East Sippo
5300 Tyner Street NW, Canton - off Perry Drive NW.

Main Park Office: Located at the north end of Clubhouse building. Office hours: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday.

Marina: Park-operated concession available with boat rentals, bait sales, beverages, snacks, tackle and fishing licenses.

Clubhouse: Heated and air-conditioned room with kitchen and restrooms for reunions, parties and meetings. Maximum capacity is 55 with overflow available on outside covered deck.

Boat Shelter: Large picnic shelter over-looking the lake with an attached kitchen. Maximum capacity is 90 people. Available for rental April through October.

Fishing Facilities: 107 acre lake, 216 foot Sherban Fishing Pier, boat ramp and many shore fishing areas. Lake is stocked with catfish, bass, walleye, perch and pickerel.

Picnic Facilities: Covered shelters, tables and grills available at Sippo Lake Park for rental on first-come-first-served basis.

Sippo Lake Park - North Entrance
5712 12th Street NW, Canton, OH 44708 - between Perry Drive Road and Genoa.

Stark County Park District Exploration Gateway - Opened in June 2007 in partnership with the Stark County District Library, this new facility is a gateway to nature, culture, and life-long learning. The Gateway also features two large community rooms, a distance learning lab, and the Herbert W. Hoover Foundation science classroom. An exhibit hall highlighting the natural and cultural history of the Ohio & Erie Canalway and The Lily Pad Gift Shop are scheduled to open in early 2008.

Sippo Lake Park - West Entrance
800 Genoa Road NW (Perry Township) Massillon, 44646

Sanders Center of Wildlife Rehabilitation is the ONLY licensed wildlife rehabilitation center in Stark county. Both trained staff and volunteer veterinarians care for over 1500 injured and orphaned native animals each year with the goal of releasing those animals, in fit condition, back to their natural environment. While the building is no longer open for visitation, the park grounds and trails are open from dawn til dusk.

Petros Lake Park
(Perry Drive SW Extension, Perry Township)

Petros Lake Park is located 2.2 miles south of West Tuscarawas Street/Lincoln Way, immediately west of the Timken Faircrest Steel Mill. Petros is 94 acres in size and currently offers landscaped open spaces and a 1.2 mile shore-side trail for spending leisure time in the great outdoors. A wildflower/butterfly trail is also available.

Fishing Lake: Petros Lake is a 12-acre lake with several thousand feet of shoreline fishing. The 10.5 foot deep lake is stocked with walleye, catfish, bass and perch. Boating is not permitted.

Picnic Areas: Several picnic areas are available including two covered shelters with tables and grills, electricity and horseshoe courts.

Volleyball Court: The court is located next to Shelter #3. A net is provided; bring your own volleyball.

Ball Fields: Reserved by local leagues but available for the public when not used for youth baseball.  The three ball fields can also be utilized as soccer fields.

Walking/Jogging Track: This 1.2-mile track winds around the entire lake and features a crushed limestone surface.

Faircrest Park
(Canton Township)

Faircrest Park is an 18-acre wooded park located on Faircrest Avenue SW one-half mile west of Cleveland Avenue. This pleasant little park offers open spaces for leisure walks and family picnics.

Picnic Shelters: There are two picnic shelters available for family reunions and club picnics; tables and grills are included with each shelter.  Shelter #5 has a brick fireplace.

Playground Area: A variety of playground equipment for the youngsters under age 6.

Volleyball Court: Net provided; bring your own volleyball.

Nature Path: Developed in conjunction with the F.O.W.L. Club of Faircrest Middle School.

Lock 4 Park

Lock 4 Park on Erie Avenue south of Canal Fulton features an historic canal lock (the fourth lock south of Summit County) and a replica of a lock keeper's cabin. Lock 4 Park also features a mill raceway, picnic tables and grills, a handicap-accessible fishing dock, and portable toilets. Parking for about 50 cars is available inside the park and along Erie Avenue. An historic landmark in northwest Stark County, Lock 4 Park is a popular entry point to the Ohio & Erie National Heritage Canalway for walkers, bicycle riders and equestrians. The park is the site of the Towpath Trail Trout Derby for children ages 5-15, sponsored every year on the last Saturday of April by the Stark County Park District and the Stark County Federation of Conservation Club.

Frank Esmont Park
(Mill Street, Canton Township, Near Munson Stadium)

This 15.5-acre park along the Nimishillen Creek features a loop trail, small memorial garden, and picnic tables. It will one day serve as a trailhead along the park district's Lower Middle Branch Trail.

Walborn And Deer Creek Reservoirs
Walborn Reservoir: 11324 Price St. NE, Alliance 44601
Deer Creek Reservoir: 14514 Price St. NE, Alliance 44601
(Lexington and Marlboro Townships, with access off Price Street)

Under a cooperative agreement with the City of Alliance, the two reservoirs came under the jurisdiction of the Stark County Park District in early 1998. These waters encompass more than 2,700 acres, providing outstanding opportunities for fishing and boating. A new marina, boat launch and docks, and a handicap accessible fishing pier have been built at Walborn Reservoir. Similar facilities are planned for Deer Creek. Services include boat rentals, bait & food sales, picnic tables, modern restroom facilities, waterfowl blinds, and hiking trails. For more information call 330-935-0367. Cook's Lagoon

Featuring a small fishing pond and .25-mile walking path. Cook Lagoon will one day serve as a trailhead for the Stark Electric Railway Trail linking Canton, Louisville, and Alliance. Cook Lagoon is located east of Market Avenue, north of 12th Street NW, Canton, near Crystal Park and Nimisilla Park.

David Fichtner Outdoor Education Center
12833 Market Avenue North, Hartville OH 44632, in Lake Township
(One block north of Rt. 619, immediately east of the Hartville Marketplace)

Acquired by the Stark County Park District in 2000, the 13-acre David Fichtner Outdoor Education Center honors the memory of the late David Fichtner, a Goodyear chemical engineer. Public programs are scheduled throughout the year. The Center includes a short hiking trail, a pond and wetlands.

Whitacre Greer Park
4290 Irish Rd. NW, outside Magnolia, OH 44688
(Follow Rt. 183 to Bachelor Road outside Magnolia; turn left onto Irish Road)

The 2,000-acre Whitacre Greer Park is currently reserved for horseback-riding only. The 3.2-mile Colby Trail is named after the property owner’s first horse after he retired. During the 2006-2009 lease with the Whitacre Greer Company, the park district will create a master plan for future development of the property that eventually is expected to include limited use for hikers and bicycle riders while maintaining an emphasis on dedicated equestrian trails. The park is open from dawn to 7 pm from October to April and from dawn to 9 pm May-September.
