EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Grades 3-5

Life Cycles: Structure and Function

Using live examples, the life cycle program highlights the changes in form and function that certain animals and plants go through. This program can work in conjunction with the milkweed bug activities in the FOSS program or other life cycle studies in your class. Please specify whether you would prefer the animal or plant version of this program. Students will identify the stages of life for animals or plants that undergo metamorphosis.

Natural Neighbors

This program evaluates human behavior and how our interaction with wildlife affects the survival of organisms and the health of ecosystems. Students will be able to describe how their everyday actions are tied to some aspect of our natural environment. Students will tell a story from an animal or plant perspective explaining how our everyday activities affect the natural world around us.

What's For Dinner?

Food chains and webs illustrate the interactions of animals and plants and the flow of energy in an ecosystem. With class participation and live animals, this program will bring to life the links between all living things in an ecosystem. Students will create their own food web using cutouts of animals or their own drawings.

Classification Program Offerings: The following two programs are offered to meet the classification standards of the third and fourth grade classrooms.

Critter Classification

This presentation focuses on the identifying characteristics of each group of animals. We can customize this program for specific focus groups such as mammals, reptiles, amphibians, or birds.

Lilies, Turnips, and Pears Oh My!

The fruits and vegetables on your plate are examples of the plant kingdom. This kingdom contains a diverse group of organisms which is much more dynamic than you might think. Learn about interesting local plant life and how it is an essential part of our ecosystems.
